Intercountry Adoption
Are you considering Intercountry Adoption? ACF accepts applications from out-of-U.S. families for newborn placement. ACF also offers adoption home studies and pre- and post-placement reports for Florida families adopting abroad via intercountry adoption.
According to the U.S. government, the number of Americans adopting children from other countries has grown rapidly. In 2005, 22,728 children received visas to enter the U.S. for adoption, compared with 7,000 in 1990.
A key factor in intercountry adoptions, which require USCIS (Immigration Service) approval, is the definition of an “orphan” who may be adopted. A comprehensive fact sheet on intercountry adoption for U.S. families is available for download at www.childwelfare.gov, the Information Gateway website of the Federal government.
Rainbowkids.com is an online resource designed to educate and support families built through intercountry adoption.
ACF provides legal services for Recognition of Foreign Judgments (re-adoption) for families residing in Florida. A Certificate of Foreign Birth will be issued by the Florida Office of Vital Statistics
