John and Amy
FAMILY FACTS Location: Pennsylvania Marital Status: Married 11 years Children: 1 daughter Hi, we would like to introduce our family to you. We are... |

There is nothing we would like more than to have a baby join our family. To give you an idea of who we are, what is important to us, and how we lead our lives, we have put together this family scrapbook. Thanks for taking the time to get to know us.
We first met in college at the University of Michigan. Our first date was 16 hours! We shared lots of stories about ourselves and our families. We discovered that we were both interested in hiking, cooking, organic gardening, and Latin America. We also learned that we both love ice cream and laughing. |
The next year we moved to Central America (Honduras and Guatemala) where Amy taught in schools and John studied. We made many friends and returned several times to visit them. We learned to speak Central-American style Spanish and ate lots of rice, beans, plantains, avocados and fruit smoothies |

We were married six years later in August, 1999. It was an outdoor ceremony and reception that took place on a beautiful little spot near our friends’ pond and cornfield.

It rained, but it was a great day because of the presence of our family, friends, delicious food, music and dancing. |

For the last ten years we have lived in a quiet neighborhood in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our house is near a big park with lots of trees, playgrounds, and a great sledding hill. (Yes, it sometimes snows where we live, but not too much). We often spend summer evenings having dinner on our front porch and chatting with our neighbors. There are lots of young children on our street. |
We are both educators and researchers. Amy used to be a kindergarten teacher. She now works with teachers in public schools to help them become more effective teaching children how to read. John teaches history at a university and studies environmental issues in Latin America. We are lucky that our work enables us to continue to travel in Latin America.

In 2005, our daughter Lucía was born. We love being parents. We knew we wanted to have a child, but we could not have imagined the day-to-day joy that being parents has brought us. Of course, it is not always easy, but we love spending time playing, reading, eating, chatting, singing, and snuggling with Lucía. |
In 2008, we lived in Santiago, Chile for six months so that John could teach at the University of Chile. We traveled to the beach, to the mountains, and we even saw nesting penguins. We loved it and hope to be able to return in the future. |
When we returned from Chile, we decided that we were ready for a puppy. Chuqui is a Red Labrador who makes us laugh every day.
Lucía started kindergarten this year. She loves drawing, telling stories, reading books, singing, playing with her friends and going on vacations. She is really, really excited about having a sibling.
We recently asked Lucia how she would tell her little brother or sister what it will be like to be in our family. She said:
Hi, I'm your big sister, Lucía
and you can call me Lucy or Lulu if you want.
That’s what my Mom calls me.
My Mom is the person who will take care of you and
my Dad is the other person who will take care of you.
Our family can’t wait for you to join in!
Welcome to the world!
There's a lot of things we want you to see out here.
I'm only 5, and soon you're going to catch up with me!
We celebrate many birthdays, vacations, and holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter with our families. They are all very excited about adopting a baby into our family.
