Peter and Rita

Dear Expectant Mother:

We know that you must be a special young woman to have made the incredibly difficult and courageous decision that has brought you to this point.  Sharing the gift of life with another requires not only a tremendous personal sacrifice, but also an amount of strength that we cannot begin to imagine.  Rest assured that we can offer your child a life filled with love, financial and emotional stability, opportunity, and a large (and fun) extended family.

We have been married for over eight years.  We have a strong marriage and a full life together, but we have always felt incomplete because we could not have a child of our own.  We have a beautiful home, rewarding careers, parents and siblings we are very close to, many good friends and even two beautiful dogs.  Even so, we felt something was missing, and we have come to know that only a child will make our family complete.

From Peter

Both Rita and I are natives of Pennsylvania.  I was raised in a small community not far from Philadelphia, and my parents are still in that area.   I have one brother, who is married and has an 8 year old son, and a sister who lives in Maryland.  She is a wonderful aunt who spends as much time as she can with our nephew.

I graduated from a university in Pennsylvania, and later received a Masters in Business Administration in Tennessee, where I lived for several years.  I worked for a long time for a pharmaceutical company.  When the company transferred me to New Jersey, I bought a house nearby in Pennsylvania and that is where I met Rita in January of 1997.

I eventually wanted to find a career where I could be outdoors instead of in an office all day.  I already had a pilot’s license, and in 2003, Rita and I moved to Florida, where I went to flight school, earned the additional licenses and certificates I needed, and eventually got a job with a large airline.  I now fly a 50-passenger regional jet.

I have many interests besides flying, including scuba diving, running, photography, woodworking, landscaping and home improvements.  I love to work on new projects for our home and if I don’t know a particular skill in order to make or fix something, I teach myself how to do it.  I have strong values and feel I would be a very good role model for my son or daughter.

From Rita

I was born and raised in the same city in Pennsylvania as my parents.  I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and after graduating, I took a job as a case worker in a child support agency.  Working in an organization that helped children was my passion, and I stayed with that office for many years, eventually becoming the assistant director.  I left that job when we moved to Florida.

Because I have always loved to write, I recently took a job as a reporter for a newspaper in the town where we now live. Both Peter and I are really enjoying our new careers in Florida.

I come from a large and close-knit family.  My father died in 1988, but my mother is a healthy and active woman who lives in Pennsylvania and visits us often.  I have three brothers and two sisters, ten nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.  My siblings and their families reside in the states of Pennsylvania, Texas and New York.

I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember.  I am godmother to four children, and they are very special to me.  One of my favorite things in life is to be with my family, all together in one place.  It helps that Peter’s job allows us to fly for free, so when there is a family function, we often get on a plane to spend time with family and friends.

Holidays and events like weddings are noisy but more fun than you can imagine, and I long to bring our own child into those very special celebrations.

Our life together (written by Rita):

When Peter moved to Pennsylvania from Tennessee, his next-door neighbor was an older woman who quickly became his friend.  Her daughter-in-law and one of my sisters are best friends. Together, the two women decided that we were meant to be together, and one snowy day in January of 1997, they had a dinner party.  That is where we met.

We started dating immediately.  After we were married, I moved into that house next to the wonderful woman who introduced me to Peter.  For the next 5 years, that neighbor was a big part of our lives.  We flew her to Florida for a visit after we moved there, and we still maintain that friendship today.

We have two dogs that are a lot of fun.  Both of them are great with children, and all the children in our neighborhood know them by name.
Quincy, our Border Collie, is 7 years old and is the smartest dog we ever knew.  Jasmine, whom we call Jazz, is a little Shih-Tzu, but she thinks she is bigger than Quincy!   They like to play in our fenced-in yard and we walk them every day.

We love to travel and are always looking to learn about new things and places.  We like to go to the nearby beach, swim in our pool, go to festivals and ballgames, do volunteer work and enjoy life in Florida.  We also like to take courses together for fun and to learn something new.  Together, we’ve taken courses to learn to speak Spanish, to make our own pasta, to learn more about gardening, dog-training, and even Latin-dancing!

I plan on being a stay-at-home mother, at least until our child is in school.  I love to cook and make a home that is warm and inviting.   Both Peter and I love to entertain and often have friends over for holiday parties and barbeques.

We know that we would make terrific parents.  Our home is filled with love, laughter and a desire to always be learning something new.  Your child would be so happy and loved here.  We have often been told that we would make wonderful parents.  Our promise to you is the security of knowing your child will forever be loved by us, and will grow to be a loving, educated, productive adult with a large extended family who will cherish him or her as much as we do.

We know your decision is a difficult one, but one made with great love for the child you carry.  We welcome the opportunity to meet with you, if that is what you wish, so that you can see for yourself how sincere we are about giving your child the most wonderful home and family possible.  Your child will always know, from us, how much love and courage you possessed in order to make the decision to give him or her a better life.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for considering us as parents.
