Leo and Karen

DEAR BIRTH MOTHER,

You are already in our prayers that you and your baby will be healthy and God will guide you to the right decision.  We hope that you will consider us as adoptive parents for your child.  You will be giving us the greatest gift in the world and you can be assured that this child will be loved, cared for, and cherished always.   We will bring this child up in a safe and loving home filled with smiles, love, and laughter.  Our child will be bilingual (English and Spanish) and we also want to teach the baby sign language so that he/she can effectively communicate his/her needs before learning to speak.  This child will be raised a Christian and will be encouraged to appreciate what we have and to help those who are less fortunate.  We believe in raising children with lots of love,  mutual respect, and open communication.  We hope this child will be a very well- rounded person.  We are raising Leo’s son Erik with an opportunity to experience different sports, cultural events, music, dance, travel, reading, etc!

We are at a time in our lives when we are ready to welcome a baby into our home.  Our hearts and minds are open to bringing another child into our family.  We are willing to respect any means of open communication and/or privacy that you choose.

Erik will be the best brother a child could ask for.  Karen is dreaming of hearing the words “mommy” and being a parent with her beloved husband, Leo.  Leo is ready to be a dad again and will raise this child with all of the love he has in his big heart.  He is also ready to see the love a sibling can bring to his son.

May God bless you and watch over you as you make your decisions.

ABOUT KAREN

I was raised in a loving family with two brothers.  The older of two brothers was adopted when I was five years old.  My youngest brother was a miracle that naturally came along as a surprise to my parents five years later.  My childhood was filled with a variety of experiences like playing three different instruments, singing, Girl Scouts, sports, and traveling.  We plan to expose our child to as many different life experiences as we can, so that the child can later pick what he/she is interested in and blossom in these areas.  We have a piano in the house and I hope that music will fill our new child’s life!

I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to visit many countries.  Leo and I have also taken many memorable trips together such as to Peru and Machu Picchu.  I also enjoy staying fit by playing tennis and working out at the gym.  A healthy diet and exercise are an important part of our family lifestyle!  Dancing is another of my favorite hobbies.  Leo and I love Latin dancing such as Salsa and Merengue.  Cultural events have always been a big part of my life, as I love to go to museums, festivals, the opera, shows, etc.

I have spent my life taking care of children.  First, my younger brothers and neighborhood children, and then working with handicapped children.  I have a Masters degree in Education and in Speech-Language Pathology.  I have worked for the school system for 20 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist and love my job!  There is no better job in the world than teaching children to communicate.

I am very close to my family and love being an aunt to my four nieces and nephews.  I was doubly blessed when I married Leo to become a stepmother to his adorable son.  One of my greatest blessings in life is my many friends.  They will also be an important part of our child’s extended family.

ABOUT LEO

I was born in Nicaragua.  I have both happy and sad memories of my country as I had to leave my beloved home due to civil unrest and turmoil in the country.  I loved playing in the ocean, helping my grandmother with the family business, and spending time with my siblings.  I came to the U.S. as a teenager and later became a citizen.  I am very proud of my Hispanic heritage and am also a proud American.  Our family traditions include learning about both cultures and celebrating holidays and traditions from both of my countries.   I have a big extended family that includes eight brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews!  I keep in touch with them as often as possible.  I also have a close knit group of friends that I grew up with and we spend lots of time together.  These people will all be a part of our new child’s life and give more love and care to that child.

I am a Graphic Designer and love creating and designing art.  I have many varied interests that include traveling, sports, photography, working out, and cultural events such as Latin dancing, the opera, shows, and music.  Art is one of my greatest interests.  My son and I spend time together going fishing, flying kites, going on bike rides, playing games, and watching movies.  He is a wonderful child and the biggest joy in my life.  I can’t wait to see him in his role as a big brother.  He and his sibling will both learn so much from each other.  I am looking forward to enlarging our family and to being a father again.

ABOUT ERIK

Erik is seven years old.  He is in the gifted program at school and is an excellent reader.  He has a kind and generous heart.  He is in our home part-time and in our hearts full-time.  Any child would be lucky to have him as a brother. He is very helpful around the house and with others.  Erik plays well with children of all ages.  He is a great conversationalist, is curious, funny, and loving.  He enjoys Tae Kwan Do and participating in sports.  We taught him to ride a bike, swim, ice skate, play tennis, and baseball.  On weekends we often take family bike rides in the park or play tennis.  He enjoys cultural events and loves movies.  Saturday nights is “Family Fun Night” as the three of us sit down and play board games.  He is interested in the environment and we talk and read a lot about how we can help the planet.  He is close to all of his family members and has lots of friends. We all say our prayers together at night before bed and his are the sweetest.  God has blessed our lives with this child and we can’t wait for the next blessing to arrive!
