Scott and Diana

Hi Friend,

We can only imagine what you must be going through as you try to make these momentous decisions. We think you’re courageous and beautiful and we’re grateful that you took a little time to have a look at our story.

We live in Florida; we’re Catholic-Baptist, college graduates. Diana has a Ph.D. and she’s a university professor and the author of five books;Scotty teaches writing and works as an editor. We’re both in our forties, we’ve been married for seven years, and no kids, just one sweet and silly little Italian Greyhound named Yogi.

Other stuff about us:

  • Scott used to teach fly fishing
  • Diana takes belly dancing lessons
  • We got married in Key West
  • Scott’s favorite musician is Jimmy Buffet
  • Diana’s favorite food is chocolate
  • Yogi’s favorite toy is her stuffed green frog, Greenie

This is the house where we live and do a lot of our work. It’s a friendly, cozy place surrounded by our orchids and herb garden, palms trees and jasmine blossoms. We both love to garden, cook, and invite family, friends, and neighbors.
We both have lively, close-knit families with loving parents and siblings. Our five nieces and nephews—ages 6 to 15—really enjoy coming over to our place for cookouts and play time in the pool. They adore their fun aunt and uncle. They know Uncle Scott will always have a wonderful adventure for them—from kayaking to visiting the manatees.  Aunt Diana is great for whipping up freshly baked cookies and yummy dinners, playing music and getting everyone to dance in the living room!

We met each other when Diana was hired by a college to teach an online class on writing. Well, she’s a good teacher, but she knew nothing about computers! The college hired Scott to be her computer-trainer and they fell in love while working together.

Now they love working together at home. Diana writes and publishes books for both adults and children and Scotty edits books and coaches other writers. They’re both so excited by the thought of sharing their love of reading and with child and introducing him or her to the joys of a big, creative imagination.

Diana’s mother is American and her father is Jordanian, so they spent a lot of time in Jordan when Diana was growing up. In this picture, seven-year-old Diana and her four-year-old sister Suzy shared a burro ride in the Jordanian desert while one of the family’s friends looked on.

We travel nearly every year and are thrilled to think of the great adventures we could share with a child, showing him or her the wonders of the world and the beauties of all cultures. In this picture, Diana and her mom lounge in front of the gorgeous Dead Sea in Jordan. Scotty, Diana, and Diana’s parents all spent two weeks together traveling around Jordan, swimming, meeting people, relaxing, and seeing the sights. We had an incredible time!

Scott and his dad truly enjoy each other’s company—they can spend hours talking, working on the boat, figuring out how to fix things and build things. Scott’s dad and stepmother live not far away and we always look forward to family get-togethers and holidays. They’re already so eager to be grandparents!

The thing that I love about Diana the most is her adventurous spirit. She’s always up for anything. She doesn’t think twice about throwing a dinner party at the last minute for a dozen friends or going kayaking with me in the keys (though she’s a little afraid of the deep water.) She has an ability to find the beauty in any situation and keep a positive attitude. Her creative abilities are simply amazing. We both maintain a strong sense of individual identity, but I like to think of us as two sides to the same coin. I’ve taught her things like fly fishing and swimming and she’s taught me abut things like cooking and writing. She loves taking care of people and throwing parties and being with friends and family. She’s more than a wife to me, she’s also my partner and best friend.

Our lives are simple and full of fun: many of our friends are artists and writers like ourselves and we love to get together, eat and talk and eat some more!

We’re both adventurous, out-going, and fun-loving by nature. Scott got himself invited into the cockpit of this big jet-liner once when we were flying home from Germany.  He’s great at fixing, building, and making all sorts of things and he loves the idea of working side by side with a child, showing them how to fix engines, build chairs, or play the coolest computer games.

We always have a great time, where ever we travel and whoever we meet. Scott and Diana try to approach the world with open hearts and minds. We both love people—grownups and children alike. And we’re thrilled down to our toes by the thought of the rich and exciting world we can share with a new little person.
